Abstract :
The dynamic process of gas evolution and absorption for copper based and copper-chromium (CuCr50) contact materials when breaking high current in vacuum was investigated. It is concluded that exists a stable pressure and the stable pressure is mainly determined by gas content and adsorption energy of contact material. Calculation shows that for copper based contact material in breaking high AC current, the gas content must be lower than 100 ppm (at); for Cu-Cr contact material, it has high enough capability in breaking current even though the gas content is as high as 2000 ppm (at).
