Abstract :
In the conventional deterministic static rating approach to transmission line ratings, various weather parameters are assumed to be constant. On the other hand probabilistic rating approach uses the actual weather data and conditions prevailing on the line to determine the likelihood or probability of a conductor temperature rising above the design temperature. Thus the probabilistic rating approach results in ratings with known levels of risk, allowing for a more reliable approach to risk based ratings. In this paper, a study report reviewing the probabilistic methodology for circuit ratings that is being used in Europe and other parts of the world is presented. A hypothetical case study of probabilistic line ratings using Monte Carlo Simulations have been presented for illustration purposes
