Abstract
With the rapid growth of industrial development and information technology, the electrical grid has recently witnessed deep transformations mainly in its infrastructure. It has moved from a centralized-control network depending on energy producers to a one that is distributed control with more consumers interaction. Therefore, the ancient grid has perceived a grid modernization making it a Smart grid. This new concept is characterized with its advanced architecture that is based on a two-way flow of electricity and communication and that involves components, including enhanced metering sensors, linked through a supervisory control and data acquisition system. The purpose of this paper is to provide a better understanding about the Smart grid concept, its potential advantages and its technologies including smart metering advancement and communication infrastructure. In addition, this paper exposes screens we designed of our application about the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition of power distribution.
