Abstract :
The demand for cellular radio services is growing rapidly and in heavily populated areas the need arises to shrink the cell sizes and “scale” the clustering pattern. The CDMA (code division multiple access) cellular system, which shares the same frequency channel across the system and applies soft handoffs between cells, has already shown, by analysis and by tests, to have full connectivity between the microcells and the overlaying macrocells without capacity degradation. In this paper, the performance of a CDMA cellular system with multiple traffic types is examined. Since in a CDMA system the signal from one specific user is spread over the entire available bandwidth, the actual bandwidth resource occupied by a user depends on the amount of the transmission power of the user
