            Abstract :
A full electric gearbox consisting of two electrical machines and controlled by inverters for continuous transmission of mechanical energy over a high speed range has been studied. The electronic power conversion can be realized by two DC-link connected voltage source inverters (VSI) or a direct connected matrix converter (MC). The best choice for the electromagnetic part is to use a permanent magnet excited synchronous machine with special magnet arrangements. An application in hybrid vehicles using the VSI-based electronic conversion is further discussed and some results are given
