Abstract :
Time delay often exists in various control and automation process. Systems incorporating time delay, either intentionally or unintentionally are known as Dead Time Systems or Time Delay Systems. The presence of delays alters the performance of the system both at start-up and at steady state. In order to have a better transient and steady state behavior for the time delay system, a PI-Smith controller based on adaptive fuzzy control scheme is being proposed. A conventional approach of implementing a PI-controller for a Smith Predictor is replaced by a fuzzy based PI-controller which attains the ability of tuning the parameters of controller on-line. The proposed control structure is analyzed on a second order system and its results show that the performance gets enhanced in both the transient and the steady state regions as compare to the conventional Smith controller.
