Abstract :
This paper describes the challenges in developing an interface for an existing rail infrastructure monitoring system. To do so, the work conducted is described and is compared to existing interface development approaches from other industries. The `effective HMI´ approach developed for industrial power plant was elected as a start point and the paper also describes the challenges of applying said approach to the rail industry and to an intelligent infrastructure monitoring system. The two approaches are discussed side by side, with rail specific and rail monitoring specific challenges highlighted. The work on this approach is ongoing but it is expected that a prototype will be ready to be presented at the time of the conference.
