Abstract
21st Century national security requires a better ability to adapt/exploit existing and future, satellite and terrestrial communications systems to meet national objectives. Shortfalls in current communications systems require solutions to support a US global presence that is still required in many environments. Satellite communications (satcom) integrated to existing, emerging, developing terrestrial communications and strategies-to-task to cost-effectively develop these capabilities are needed for AEF requirements. Command and control information systems are explained as legacies of Vietnam-era systems. Current restructured/realigned capabilities still require external command and control. Architecture management, with improvements applying cost-effective new radio frequency (RF) technologies, will aid fielding and employment of future capability. To solve associated problems, investigations using integrated concurrent engineering techniques could foster the next generation of production capabilities and lead to further experimental enhancements
