  • Abstract
    Standardization of the over-the-air (OTA) testing of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) terminals is on-going. The anechoic chamber and fading emulator based test method is one proposal for a standard test method. Among the various proposed methods, it is technically advantageous providing the possibility for both the determination of the desired primary figure of merit, the throughput, and allowing the generation of a field with a Laplacian-distributed power azimuth spectra (PAS) scattered by a cluster. In the well-known channel models SCME and WINNER II the PAS of the field scattered by the cluster is assumed to be Laplacian-distributed. The purpose of this paper is to provide rules for the number of required probe antennas for generating a field scattered by a single cluster with the Laplacian-distributed PAS for varying angular spreads and sizes of the test zone is an anechoic chamber and fading emulator based test method involving multiple probe antennas.
