Abstract
The use of a Satellite Pager inside buildings involves a radio propagation environment that differs from the more familiar street level situation that has been studied in connection with vehicle-borne transceivers. Low elevation angle satellite mobile propagation models that adequately describe the signals in open and urban areas are no longer sufficient. This is because account has not been taken of the building penetration loss associated with the indoor environment. This additional loss may depend on various factors including the range from the transmitter, the building construction and the nature and density of surrounding buildings. This paper reports on results obtained from a field trial carried out at the University of Bradford in response to interest by INMARSAT and RSRE, Defford
