Abstract :
The authors propose a general purpose control system for variable speed AC drives, which could be configured to each individual application. From the implementation of customised solutions it is possible to conclude that microprocessors and microcontrollers available have the capability to meet the requirements of general purpose software. The authors initially discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the new approach and then indicate the changes to be made to the design process to achieve a general purpose control system. Having verified that it is possible to design such a system, the full requirement specifications are presented, which is followed by the design of the system using communicating processes
