Abstract
This paper presents a comparative evaluation of the proportional-integral PI controller (PIC) and type-2 fuzzy logic controllers for applications to active power filter (APF). The proposed algorithm is simple, based on measuring source current and regulating dc link voltage. It operates without sensing the volt-ampere requirement of the nonlinear load. The PI and type-2 fuzzy logic controllers (T2FLC) are used to control dc link voltage. The T2FLC is the non-model based approach, which does not require the mathematical model of the active power filter. The active power filter (APF) driving signals are produced with help of the hysteresis current controller. The performance of APF with conventional PIC and T2FLC is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The type-2 fuzzy logic controller provides less dc link voltage ripple than the conventional PI controller.
