  • Abstract
    This paper presents a new application of the Bees algorithm (BA) for solving the optimal power flow (OPF). The power flow is optimized to find minimum fuel cost of power system with various constraints. The proposed methodology which is evaluated on IEEE 30 and IEEE 118 bus systems is implemented to minimize the total fuel cost considering operational constraints i.e. power flow equations, generation constraints, transformer constraints and security constraints. The results obtained by using the proposed approach are compared with other optimization methods. The Bees algorithm provides results better than other heuristic techniques. The results also show that BA has the effectiveness and potential for solving both small and large scale OPF problem.
