Abstract :
Stable or not stable is still the main question concerning linear z-pinches. Modern pulsed power experiments show enhanced macroscopical stability but also a tendency to global pinch expansion and local compression. Linear ultrasmall pinches need careful plasma preparation and effective coupling of terawatt drivers to that “load” in order to initiate homogeneous radiative collapse.
