  • Abstract
Main theme of this paper is to propose a compensation scheme to improve voltage profile of Indian Railway traction system. Indian Railways are the world´s largest transportation sector operating with poor technical standards. Traction transmission lines of thousands of kilometers divided into number of finite sections, connected with bridge interrupters and power for each finite section fed by local substation. Under heavy traffic, overloading on finite section of a transmission line with multiple locomotive loads yields to dip in transmission voltage below the rated voltage of locomotives and heavy current due to overloading may trigger the circuit breakers even there is no fault on line. Inefficient operation of motor takes place if the system is operated with under voltages. Simulation model of Dynamic Voltage Restorer presented in this paper promised an effective solution to overcome these drawbacks.
