Abstract :
This paper presents a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based Standalone Wind Energy Conversion System (SWECS) with integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) capability. A Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) based sensorless control of DFIG is used in this system for eliminating the rotor position sensor. The proposed configuration is designed to extract maximum power for a wide variation in wind speeds irrespective of the load variation. In this proposed topology by adding BESS, the power leveling, load compensation and harmonics compensation along with the voltage and frequency control are achieved. The control algorithm is discussed for both the voltage source converters (VSCs). A prototype of this proposed DFIG based SWECS is developed using a DSP (Digital Signal Processor-dSPACE DS1103). This developed DFIG is tested extensively for compensation of nonlinear loads under steady state and dynamic conditions at sub-synchronous and super-synchronous speed regions. The dynamic performance of proposed system is demonstrated for the variable wind speed operation.
