Abstract
A new fourth-order double boost dc-dc converter is proposed, and then a digital controller is designed to ensure load voltage regulation. The proposed converter is capable of yielding identical voltage gain as that of the fifth-order boost converter reported in literature. Through steady-state analysis various design expressions for the energy storage elements are obtained. Discrete-time models of the converter are formulated and then used in digital controller design. A 30 Watt, 12 to 48 V, 100 kHz laboratory prototype closed-loop converter has been developed and then tested, both in simulation and experimentally, for its voltage regulation capability against source and load perturbations. Experiment and simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter design.
