Abstract
Ćuk converter topology is one of the most optimal topologies for power conversion. The important features of this topology are single stage power conversion, high efficiency and reduced conduction and switching losses. This paper presents the design, modeling and simulation aspects of a bridgeless ćuk converter based power factor pre-regulator. The interesting features of this topology in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) are automatic input current shaping capability and power factor correction even when output voltage is lesser than the source voltage peak value unlike that in the commonly used boost converter pre-regulators. The converter is modeled using Current Injected Equivalent Circuit Approach (CIECA) and the design of compensator for closed loop control is done by K-factor approach. Theoretical predictions are validated through MATLAB simulations. The work is of tutorial value to students and engineers.
