Abstract :
In this paper, an investigation into the use of SSSC based power oscillation damping controller to enhance the transient stability of a multimachine power systems is presented. For evaluation of effectiveness and robustness of designed controllers, the performance was tested on multimachine system subjected to unbalance faults and system parameter variations. Simulation results are carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment for multi-machine power system to analyse the effects of SSSC on transient stability performance and damping of power swings of the system. Simulation results show the fine performance of the proposed SSSC controller in damping the critical modes without significantly deteriorating the damping characteristics of other modes in multimachine power system.
