Abstract :
Future Intelligent Cities, or Smart Cities, represent an opportunity to enable growth, prosperity, employment, education and greater social welfare through a combination of careful planning, connected communities, educated citizens and clever technology. In the creation of an intelligent city we also create vast amounts of data, but collecting Big Data poses security risks which if left unaddressed will leave everyone exposed to potential cyber crime or misuse of data. This paper looks at how we might secure this data from cyber criminals or malicious attack and how we can balance that data security with the open access required to enable a truly Smart City.
