Abstract :
This paper deals with the study of the mechanism of medium access in the reverse link within a third generation UTRA system. The voice service is beamed off through a dedicated channel whereas a common channel is used for a very widespread service like Web traffic. The results reveal that there are great differences between the voice only system and the data only system. We can conclude that the maximum number of users within the system will depend only on the required quality of service in the case of the voice system (admission control), but in the case of the data system it depends on the available resources in the access channel
