            Abstract :
In this paper the polynomial CARMA model is posed in two distinctly different state-space models and a solution is found to the optimal discrete time observer problem for both cases. Links between these observers and the polynomial based optimal controller problem are discussed, and it is shown how the state estimator, which is effectively employed in the optimal controller, is only optimal in terms of its own state-space description.
