  • Abstract
CFD methods have been used to simulate the operating conditions of two hydraulic couplings with different vane angles. By analyzing the numerical results of the two couplings, it is concluded that in traction and reversing damped conditions, the hydraulic coupling with angled vanes has a much higher capability of torque transmission than hydraulic coupling with radial vanes. However in backward condition, the capability of torque transmission of hydraulic coupling with angled vanes is lower. In traction condition, when speed ratio is comparatively low, hydraulic coupling with angled vanes will generate a much stronger axial force. When speed ratio is higher, the axial force of the two hydraulic couplings will eventually become equal.
