Abstract :
The replacement of the DC motors in railway traction with induction motors is a general tendency for rolling-stock producers and users due to the advantage of the second version. A general structure and topology for the traction motor supply and control is generally accepted and comprises as main component, the inverter, based on expensive power electronic devices. The authors present a new technical solution, by which the induction traction motors may be supplied quasi-directly from synchronous generators of the diesel electric locomotive. The electronic equipment is simple, cheap and safe
