  • Abstract
This paper proposes a novel SMR (Switched-Mode Rectifier) converter, based on Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) topology in AC/AC conversion. In conventional SMR converter needs DC energy buffer in AC/AC conversion stage because Back-To-Back (BTB) configuration is employed. SMR converters using matrix converter (MC) topology are proposed to reduce large DC energy buffer. MC topology however needs bidirectional switching device and AC snubbers. On the other hands, IMC topology is proposed as a third way of AC/AC conversion. IMC can be composed of unidirectional switches and DC snubbers without large DC energy buffer. Additionally, the proposed SMR converter operates ZCS at inverter side because DC link current can be zero instantaneously. Therefore, the proposed SMR converter realizes to reduce switching loss and to be low-cost and high-efficiency compared to BTB topology and MC topology.
