Abstract
In this paper, a switched motor with a squirrel cage in the rotor is presented. The starting point for this new kind of machine is the switched reluctance motor, where the cylindrical toothed rotor has been complemented by a squirrel cage. The advantages of this cage are clear and are presented. The performance of the machine will change also. This change is investigated numerically as well as by measurements. A mathematical model of the motor is created, which allows the 2-dimensional transient solution of the field problem for variable speed. In order to illustrate the machine´s performance, on the one hand the stator currents are given as a function of the rotor position, but on the other hand the mechanical machine´s output is much more important to allow for a comparison with a switched reluctance motor. Therefore the electrical torque is calculated as a function of the rotor speed and of the stator current
