Abstract
Three physical concepts of the target structures to increase the power density on the target were investigated experimentally applying a focused relativistic electron beam. In the plasma jet formation experiments on cylindrical and spherical Au targets, the clear evidence of plasma jet formation was shown. The experimental and computational study of a double foil acceleration have been conducted to clarify the condition for velocity multiplication. It was indicated that the key point of the velocity multiplication is the inhibition of shock heating of the foils at collision. The conical cavity irradiation experiments showed that the areal mass density of the foil was increased as the results of the areal plasma convergence in the cavity.
