Abstract
Investigates the effect of anisotropic diffusion filtering on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) images. The projection images as well as images of tomographic slices were filtered using a total variation based anisotropic diffusion algorithm. It was shown that the anisotropic diffusion filtering reduced the noise about threefold in the images of a cylindrical uniformity phantom without a loss in resolution
