  • Abstract
In [1] and [2], we have proposed a novel metric for evaluating the capacity to the total energy consumption ratio of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems. We have considered the context of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and we have evaluated the proposed metric over the distance between the transmitting and the receiving sides. We have identified the optimal MIMO system configuration for which the capacity to the total energy consumption ratio is maximum. In this paper, we consider the case of (6 × 6) MIMO systems with polarization diversity where different polarization strategies are considered. The metric capacity to energy ratio has been evaluated as a function of the separation distance between the transmitter and the receiver, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the Cross Polarization Discrimination (XPD) parameters. According to simulation results, the highest capacity to energy ratios are obtained in the case of three antennas polarization configuration. The gain at low XPD is superior to 2 when comparing to single antennas polarization and exceeds 1.25 referring to dual antennas polarization.
