Abstract
Integration of acoustic payloads is difficult for both parties involved, the AUV designer and acoustic sensor supplier. The source of this difficulty results from the diversity of AUV designs and a general lack of knowledge on the capabilities and restrictions of available acoustic sensors. This paper will attempt to provide sufficient information on side scan sonar design parameters and capabilities to permit the AUV designer to minimize integration and operational issues through informed sensor selection
