Abstract
In this paper, the investigation of the effects of directed retry (DR) in cellular radio networks is carried out through an analytical model which takes both propagation and network aspects into account. In this model, path loss as well as lognormal shadowing have been considered. The paper shows that the impact of DR on the blocking probability depends largely on the number of cells which can be considered by the mobile during the call set-up procedure; this number depends on the propagation environment considered. The analytical results have been compared with those obtained through a simulation tool and the results have shown a good agreement. Moreover, with the aim to take non-uniform scenarios into account, a generalization of the analytical method, through a statistical approach, has been proposed
