Abstract

Desert dust events reaching the Atlantic Ocean and the Iberian Peninsula in year 2000 are analyzed in this work. Three different measurement sites were selected: Funchal (Madeira Island), Lisbon (Portugal) and El Arenosillo (Huelva, Spain). The aim of this work is to study the characteristics of desert dust aerosol during these events, and the ability of detecting them through aerosol optical depth measurements given by Brewer and Cimel instruments. Back trajectories analysis is also carried out as a support for these measurements.
