Abstract :
This paper summarizes the findings of research activities on the wideband CDMA mobile communications system; the document aims at providing indications for the correct deployment of W-CDMA radio interface and focalizes on those issues, such as capacity and coverage trade-off, transmit power management and soft handover, that represent the foremost innovations towards planning and roll-out of 3rd generation radio access networks. The considered technology is the FDD component of UMTS as described in 3GPP technical specifications (1999)
