Abstract
Illustrates with examples alternative solutions to present day synchronization requirements of some public and private networks. Digital networks as they stand today pose a particular set of timing problems. In general these are now well defined and well met with current technology. As one moves towards the synchronous digital hierarchy and SONET a new set of rules are met, some as yet still evolving and not well defined or understood. Yet, by the very nature of the philosophy of SDH it will be essential to operate a superlative clock system. In addition, the ability to distribute, disseminate and regenerate without losing the intrinsic accuracy of this clock throughout the network will be of paramount importance
