Abstract :
Describes a form of all-optical amplification using the Kerr effect in optical fibres. It outlines the general theory of Kerr amplification and applies it to several possible amplifier configurations. An experimental demonstration is described in which a gain of 3 dB is observed. The various amplifier configurations are analysed and compared
