Abstract :
A novel 2/spl times/2 digital optical switch based on thermo-optically induced adiabatic modal evolution using a symmetric X-crossing and a tapered overlap area between electrodes and waveguides is reported. Polarization and wavelength insensitive switching is demonstrated at /spl lambda/=1.3 /spl mu/m and 1.55 /spl mu/m with a switching power of /spl ges/45 mW and crosstalk values of <-25 dB.
