Abstract :
A constantly growing interest in cellular and mobile technology has lead to a need for MAC protocols specifically designed to accommodate high bandwidth multimedia services with high mobility (such as vehicular networks) unlike conventional cellular telephony systems. This paper presents the design and performance evaluation of a MAC protocol for a motorway environment with audio sources and variable bit rate (VBR) video source in the system. The system performance in terms of throughput, packet access delay, packet-dropping probability (PDP) and statistical multiplexing gain is evaluated analytically and then verified through simulation results and novel results are reported. Effect of a Poisson and self-similar source on the system has also been compared.
