Abstract :
When faced with the planning, reconstruction, or maintenance of a power system complex inter-related data assembly tasks are undertaken. Inadequate or incomplete decisions, and engineering time spent on related data collection represent a regular and significant cost to all electricity boards. The authors identify the kinds of decisions necessary, and describe the evolution of a comprehensive database that can assist in the indentification of the total task, immediate access to all the relevant data, and direct data integration to relevant analysis, control and maintenance programs. The overall benefit of such a database will be to relieve the engineer of much time consuming clerical and routine data collection tasks. He will therefore be able to focus his efforts in areas where his experience and judgement as an engineer are of prime importance
