Abstract :
In this paper we develop an analytical framework for a simple channel borrowing (CB) scheme, and compare the performance of dynamic priority queuing (DPQ), CB, and first in first out (FIFO) schemes in a personal communication system (PCS) environment. Our study shows that from an overall performance point of view (i.e., handoff and new blocking probability, as well as from an implementation point of view), the DPQ scheme is a better choice in a PCS environment. DPQ, compared to FIFO, gives better handoff blocking performance and, compared to CB, has much lower complexity. Therefore, DPQ is anticipated to be a very useful approach in evaluating and improving performance of PCS systems
