Abstract :
The feasibility of applying existing SDH/SONET-based supervising methodologies to wavelength division multiplexing type all-optical networks is discussed from the view point of alarm detection and generation, their transmission and fault localization. This paper shows that regenerator termination type systems can use the methodologies while optical cross-connect type systems cannot employ bit-oriented data transmission even with extensive modification. Finally, an optical input power monitoring scheme for optical amplifier repeaters is proposed that offers good performance
