  • Abstract
A new sophisticated algorithm for fully automatic frequency planning is presented. Modern cellular radio systems typically employ several thousands of transceivers simultaneously. An appropriate assignment of frequencies to cells can, in such a case, significantly suppress the intra-system interference. However, the process of frequency planning is a very complex and difficult task due to the fact that a great number of sometimes mutually opposing requirements must be satisfied. In the proposed algorithm, the optimisation of a nonlinear, multivariate and multicriterion interference function is realised in such a way as to provide a very good frequency planning solution in an acceptably short time. During the real radio system design, the performance of the proposed algorithm has been verified, not only by simulation but also in practice.
