Abstract
This paper presents an equivalent Thevenin source (ETS) method for analysis of two-dimensional (2D) circuits. The analysis is based on the decomposition of a 2D RLGC circuit into cascade-connected ladder subnetworks with 2L ports. For each ladder subnetwork, corresponding transmission matrices are counted and all previous subnetworks are than substituted by L ETSs. They represent the excitation of the next ladder subnetwork. The input and output voltages, as well as the input currents of each subnetwork can be obtained by successive application of this approach. This method is compared to two other methods used for the same purpose, namely the nodal voltage method and the chain matrix method.
