Abstract :
A nondestructive method for measuring the dielectric permittivity of soil has been implemented. The sensor is realized as an open-ended semirigid coaxial cable. The measurement procedure is based on measuring the reflection coefficient of the sensor. A computer program for performing the analysis of measured data has been developed. The dielectric constant and conductivity of soil from a test site in Dalmatia, Croatia, has been measured. The results show the dependence of the electromagnetic properties of soil on frequency and on moisture content. The measured results indicate the accuracy of the implemented measurement method.
