Abstract :
Ill-conditioned nature of the matrix inversion in the alternating-directions-implicit finite-difference-time-domain (ADI-FDTD) method is shown and the consequences thereof are discussed for either the standard implementation of the ADI-FDTD method, or for the slowly varying envelope (SVE) modification of the ADI-FDTD method in case of harmonic time dependence of the carrier wave.
