Abstract
Today´s software development projects include number of stakeholders, large development team, complicated requirements from different areas and significant financial resources. Large problem scope of these software systems together with even shorter time-to-market demands careful project planning and organization. Inappropriate results of initial project phase usually lead to unrealistic expectations from software development team and to project failure. This paper examines common problems related to initial phase of software development project and proposes strategies that should be used to create realistic project plans, efficient software development organization and to enable realization of software system that would provide value to it´s customers
