Abstract :
A microcomputer-based system that dynamically obtains the fiber-cement wet-sheet thickness is described. An estimation algorithm for deriving the last layer thickness with an accuracy of better than 0.01 mm is discussed. An angular optical shaft encoder and microcomputer measurement unit, joined with developed software, are the basic elements of the system. High precision, setting of measurement offset, automatic definition of zero position, and insensitivity to vibrations are shown to be the advantages of the measurement methods.
