  • Abstract
In this paper, two implementations of a digital loudspeaker crossover that utilize two different types of magnitude complementary filter pairs are investigated. Influences that these types of crossovers have on the subjective experience of the reproduced sound are compared. The first type of magnitude complementary filter pairs comprises IIR filters. These filters are constructed as a tapped cascaded interconnection of two all-pass filters. The all-pass subfilters can be of a very low order so that changing of the crossover frequency is very simple. The disadvantage is that these filters have nonlinear phase characteristic. The second type of magnitude complementary filter pairs comprises linear phase FIR filters. The disadvantage of these filters is high implementation complexity
