Abstract :
The recent work on new lens designs, electronics, and signal processing regarding acoustic microscopy is summarized. A comparative analysis of different systems with respect to characterization ability and resolution is presented. Capabilities of different configurations for subsurface penetration and quantitative characterization ability are given. Possible lens configurations with increased anisotropic sensitivity are shown. In particular, the Lamb wave lens is described with its inherent advantages related to subsurface characterization and selective imaging.
