  • Abstract
The authors analyze a new channel borrowing technique based on the queueing theory concept of the ordered hunt. This technique allows the borrowing of ordered resources in an adaptive way depending on the traffic situation. For a specific traffic load, a cell can give to its surrounding cells a calculated number of resources. The scheme can be implemented in a slow frequency hopping time division multiple access (TDMA) system like GSM. The performance of this procedure was evaluated by means of simulation on a seven cell cluster system with characteristics similar to the GSM. Simulation results show a reduction in the blocking probability with respect to the fixed channel assignment.
