Abstract :
A novel Class E rectifier with a parallel inductor is introduced. The current and voltage waveforms explaining the principle of circuit operation are shown. The current of the rectifier diode is jumpless; therefore, switching losses and the reverse-recovery effect are considerably reduced. A symmetry between the rectifier and a Class E amplifier with a parallel inductor is presented. Characteristics of the DC output voltage as functions of the load resistance were measured at three values of the inductance. The experimental waveforms were in good agreement with those predicted theoretically. The circuit can operate with load resistance from zero to infinity. The rectifier is suitable for applications in resonant DC/DC power converters.
